How Fertility Care Is Evolving for Women | Blush & Bloom Podcast | Ep. 6

Updated: Aug 5

blush and bloom podcast episode with Yesica Mendez

When it comes to fertility, misconceptions are everywhere. Many people think IVF is a guaranteed solution or that it’s only for couples who can’t conceive. The reality is far more complex and often misunderstood.

In this episode of Blush & Bloom, I spoke with Yesica Méndez, a global FemTech leader and fertility entrepreneur, about why fertility care needs to be better understood and more accessible.

Yesica has spent over 20 years at the intersection of healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, and women’s health. From running IVF clinics to building FemTech communities in Latin America, she’s seen firsthand how myths, stigma, and lack of education hold women back from making informed choices about their reproductive health.

This conversation dives deep into the truths behind fertility care, why empathy matters just as much as technology, and what it takes to create inclusive, trustworthy solutions in a space that is often surrounded by silence.

In This Episode, We Cover:

✨ The biggest misconceptions about IVF and why it’s not just for infertility

Fertility Care Needs More Than Technology

Yesica shared how IVF is often misunderstood as a “quick fix.” In reality, the success of fertility treatments depends on many factors, including age, health, and timing.

She also pointed out that IVF isn’t only for couples facing infertility.

Today, people use assisted reproductive technologies for family planning, solo parenthood, or even to prevent hereditary health issues.

“We need to change how we talk about fertility. It’s not something to be ashamed of—it’s a part of healthcare like any other, and women deserve to understand their options,” Yesica explained.

Why Education Matters

One of the most striking parts of our conversation was Yesica's belief that fertility education should start earlier.

I wish every woman knew how fertility declines over the years, and what options they have if they want to delay motherhood,” she said.

Egg freezing is becoming a popular option for younger women who want to focus on their careers or aren’t ready to have children yet. Yesica shared how WeFIV is seeing more women in their 20s and early 30s taking control of their reproductive choices, something that was almost unheard of a decade ago.

Breaking the Stigma

Despite progress, many fertility conversations are still buried under layers of stigma. In some parts of Latin America, topics like egg donation and menopause remain taboo.

Her mission with FemTech Latin America is to bring these conversations into the open. By mentoring other women founders and building a collaborative network, she’s creating a space where innovation in women’s health can thrive.

AI and the Future of Fertility

She is also exploring how AI can improve patient outcomes in fertility care. From predicting the best time for egg retrieval to improving embryo selection, AI is already transforming clinical decisions.

But she’s quick to note that ethics and trust must come first: “FemTech can’t grow without trust. We need to be transparent about data, privacy, and how these tools are being used.

Advice for Women Facing Fertility Decisions

When asked what advice she’d give to women navigating overwhelming fertility choices, she said: “Take your time. Find professionals who will walk this journey with you, not push you. And don’t underestimate emotional support, therapy can make a huge difference.
